About SAR
Sunflowers and Romance is a Torah Observant Christian book publisher offering titles in Christian romance, fantasy, and Si-fi. SAR is a black, woman owned company committed to sharing authentic tales of imperfect people seeking the face of a perfect Yah through love, battles, and adventures in out of this world places. We take books from the planning stages to the actual live stages in ways that blows the minds of readers while glorifying the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob.
When Yahuah Elohim first began to birth the author side of Ms. Lloyd, it was during one of the darkest times of her life. Lost, hurting, and searching for purpose, she found comfort in one phrase spoken to her by the Holy Spirit, “Bloom where you are planted.” In life we cannot control where Yah plants us for a day, a season, or a lifetime. Yet, we can control whether we bloom.
“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.”
Psalms 1:2-3
Sunflowers are the flower that always came to her mind in that dark time and has since become one of her touch stones. To reminder her that she can bloom. To remind her that she is just as well dressed as a sunflower. And to remind her of the access she now has to the River of life, AKA the living waters, promised by Messiah Yahusha.
When Valencia fell in love with books at age 12, it wasn’t the romance ones. She was here for the adventure, the action, and the writing. It wasn’t until late middle school, the beginning of the Twilight era, the romance grabbed her attention. For over 10 years, she was obsessed with romance. The dirtier the better. In March 2022, she had a fresh encounter with Yah and began to seek His face, His name, and His heart like never before. The first thing that had to go was the books. Yikes. It was hard, but she decided to love Yah with more than words. With her actions.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”
1 John 5:3
For almost, 5 months she didn’t read a book that wasn’t a Bible. You’re talking about a person who read three l-5 chapter books a week. I went to zero books over the course of 5 months, because her heart had changed. Slowly, the Most High released her to try out Christian Romance: a genre that she had read before but had found that it was too white and bland. Through all of her changing, she still loved romance and desires to write books that celebrate and represent her very specific demographic: black, Christian, Torah Observant, and disabled.
So yes, there will be a ton of romance produced here. HOWEVER, Yah in his faithfulness has released Valencia to write and publish Christian fantasy and sci-fi books. Not every book here is black and Torah Observant, but every last one of them glorifies Yahuah and his son Yahusha. Yah is love, so why not show it in a way that honors what he created?
“We love, because He first loved us.”
